More about
Mark Stasz
Lived in Bellevue, ID for 18 years. Currently resides in Cloverdale, CA.
Mark Stasz is a Washington-based sculptor known for his abstract stone and metal works. He developed his artistic skills at the Williston Northampton School and later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University in New York. An apprenticeship with Terrence Karpowicz Studio in Chicago further honed his expertise in steel and stone sculpture.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
• Specializes in monumental sculptures using materials like steel, bronze, and stone.
• Known for creating the illusion of delicate balance in massive structures.
• Combines man-made materials (steel, bronze) with natural elements (stone, wood) to explore themes of harmony and contrast.
• Emphasizes intuitive design, blending artistic heritage with an engineer's sense of form and structure.
• His work often explores abstracted human and architectural forms, invoking a sense of timelessness and archetype.
• Stasz’s sculptures tend to have a monolithic quality— reminiscent of ancient stone markers or pillars, combining raw geological presence with refined form.
NOTABLE PUBLIC INSTALLATIONS
Mark has created over 450 sculptures that adorn public spaces across the country, including pieces commissioned by or on display at in Boise, ID, The Los Angeles County Airport in Los Angeles, California; Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa; and Wilmette Medical Center in Wilmette, Illinois; Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
"I strive to embody each sculpture with a sense of freedom or breathing room. What I set out to do is engage the viewer in the beauty of the line, the harmony found in a balanced composition and the appeal of something massive and intriguing”.
